WEST AFRICA HUNGER CRISIS
A deadly combination of crop shortages, rising food prices and insecurity in neighbouring countries has left over 18 million people across West Africa facing a growing hunger crisis. Acute malnutrition, the most severe form of hunger, has been at critical levels in parts of West Africa for many years. Young children are smaller, weaker and far more vulnerable, so their chances of survival are lower. Over 1 million children’s lives are at stake!!
Children are suffering the consequences

- Children are suffering from chronic malnutrition when they do not have enough nutritious and healthy food, affecting just under 50% of all children in Niger and causing stunting amongst 30% of children in Burkina Faso.
- Children are dropping out of school in order to earn money to help their families.
- Children are fostered out by their parents who are unable to feed them and are struggling to survive by eating foul-tasting leaves.

2.In Burkina Faso, we have reached 55,000 vulnerable families & children with rapidly delivered blankets, soap & education materials to newly arrived refugees as well as malnutrition screening and treatment.
3.In Mali, we delivered hygiene kits, including soap & buckets to over 1,000 extremely vulnerable displaced people – benefitting 600 children.
